Republicans warm to climate messaging | The National Journal

Chris Barnard, the president of the American Conservation Coalition, said when Republicans reject or do not fully address climate change, they alienate young voters who have grown up seeing it as a problem.

“I think there are a lot of people that would be open to voting for Republicans that have been disaffected and as a result are either not voting or voting for Democrats,” Barnard said.

Barnard said Republicans have critiqued Democratic climate policies for their costs and logistics of implementation, but they have not yet effectively shown voters their own strategies.

“Republicans have done a good job of pointing out where the left is going wrong, but they have not done a good enough job of showing [that] their ideas are better,” he said.
